The Expo:  What's It All About?

  Sustainable Namoi Living

Sustainable Namoi Living is a series of events which aims to demonstrate to the community of the Namoi Catchment how individuals can address and adapt to global warming.

The Expo evolved from the two-day Namoi Sustainable Open House in Tamworth in 2009 where about 3000 people attended guided tours of a sustainable home. It was staged by Tamworth Manilla Landcare and Namoi Catchment Management Authority (CMA).

In 2010 Namoi CMA partnered with Narrabri Bushcare Group, Tamworth Manilla Landcare Association and Liverpool Plains Land Management to run open houses, industry displays and educational workshops at Narrabri, Tamworth and Gunnedah. These events were called Eco-Smart Building Expos.   In 2011 the series became known as the Sustainable Namoi living Series.  A two day expo was held at Tamworth while sustainable houses were open across the catchment on the following weekend.

 2012 Events

In 2012 a very diverse and exciting series of events will occur.

Competitions: School competitions will be sent out to schools late in 2011 to be available for  teachers and students to work on at the beginning of the 2012 school year.  They will be judged in April.  A schools awards event will be held on the first day of the expo, Friday May 18th 2012. Students will receive prizes from a well known guest speaker.  Other competitions are also being planned.

Local events: Community groups around the catchment will be funded to run  events mainly in April.  Other organisations are also being funded to run events.
